As those Lubbock temperatures start to rise and the days grow longer, there’s nowhere you’d rather be than by the water. But since Lubbock isn’t exactly Miami Beach, it’s nice to have a pool you can head out to. And unless you’re lucky enough to have one in your backyard, there’s no better place to beat the heat and make a splash than at Desert Wave Aquatic Center. Home to the legendary Seahorse Swim School, Desert Wave is well-equipped to give you and your friends and family all the sunshine and good times you could ask for this summer.

But we know it can get a little overwhelming trying to plan the very best pool day every time you go to the pool. After all, you don’t want to have to pack everything up and go home early because you forgot something, or the weather’s bad, or whatever else can happen. And that’s where we come in. We’re here to help you make this a summer to remember and truly maximize your time here at Desert Wave Aquatic Center.

So, grab your floaties and dive into our top tips for maximizing your poolside experience!

Dive into Membership

If you’re planning on turning into a certified water bug this summer (which you totally should), snagging a membership is the way to go. With perks like unlimited access to the pool, and plenty of savings compared to paying full price each time you come, it’s more than worth it. When you have a membership, you don’t need to worry about having to stay all day every time you come, because you’ve already paid for all your visits up front. Plus, you’ll feel like a VIP every time you breeze past the line at the entrance. Talk about making waves!

Sunscreen, Snacks, and Swimsuits:

Picture this: you’ve got your favorite swimsuit on, the sun is shining, and you’re ready to make a splash. But wait, did you remember your sunscreen? And snacks? And a towel? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered (literally). Before you hit the pool, double-check your pool bag essentials: sunscreen (SPF 100 for the extra cautious), your favorite snacks (because swimming works up an appetite), and of course, your trusty swimsuit. Pro tip: Pack some extra sunscreen for those hard-to-reach spots (we’re looking at you, backs of knees). Oh and let’s be real, we’re in West Texas, a portable fan is a brilliant investment for the summer, so pack that too.

Floats and Toys

Let’s face it, floating effortlessly on a giant inflatable pineapple is the epitome of summer goals. And kids love having a fun float, noodle, or toy to play in the water with. So if you want the ultimate pool day or just the ultimate summer, then be sure to bring whatever floats, toys, diving rings, and anything else that will entertain you and your kids.

Safety First

It’s no secret that water safety is a seriously important topic all the time, but especially during the summer. When you spend time by a pool it’s important to remember not to use glass bottles (imagine stepping on that while barefoot), always pay attention to your surroundings, and make sure you and your kids are well-prepared for the water. That means you know how to swim, and your children either know how or are learning and are constantly with an adult. Fortunately, we also offer swim lessons here at Desert Wave Aquatic Center for private or group sessions, so if you want to brush up on your water skills this summer, you know where to find us.

So there you have it, folks! With these tips in your poolside arsenal, you’re all set to make this summer one for the books at Desert Wave Aquatic Center. So grab your sunscreen, inflate that flamingo floaty, and get ready to make a splash. See you by the pool!
